What are your hours of business?
You can contact our Customer Service department for advice 08:45 to 17:00 Monday to Friday* on 01204 521771. For collection of material, our despatch desk is open 08:00 to 16:30 Monday to Thursday and 08:00 to 15:45 on Fridays*.
*excludes national holidays


What is the minimum order quantity?
There’s no minimum order quantity, just the size of can in which the material is supplied.


What is the smallest pack size I can order?
The smallest pack size for the majority of products is a 5 litre unit.


Do you have a discount structure for different volumes?
Each sale is taken on its own merits. Please talk to our Customer Service department on 01204 521771 who be more than happy to help you.


How do I find out the price for a particular material?

When I place an order will there be a delivery charge and how long will delivery take?
Times and charges depend on where in the world your goods are to be delivered. On request we can arrange special deliveries but for a general guideline please see below.

Please note we do not deliver on national holidays.

Mainland*

Orders over 100 litres are delivered free of charge to UK mainland and stocked items will be delivered the next working day before 6pm. Orders less than 100 litres incur a £35 carriage charge from 1st July 2006.

*a small number of mainland UK locations are 2 days delivery - please speak to our customer advisors for further information.

UK Offshore

A small charge is made for deliveries to UK Offshore islands and stocked items will be delivered within 3 - 7 working days.

Ireland

Belfast City Limits Orders over 200 litres are delivered free of charge to locations with postcodes BT1 to BT15 and stocked items will be delivered the next working day before 6pm. Orders less than 200 litres incur a £45 carriage charge.

Northern Ireland Counties Orders over 200 litres are delivered free of charge and stocked items will be delivered within 2 working days. Orders less than 200 litres incur a £45 carriage charge.

Southern Ireland Deliveries to Southern Ireland abide to export regulations. Transport charges are order specific and stocked items will be delivered within 2 working days. Basic information required: · Full Company name and address · VAT number

Export Orders

We can deliver goods to main seaports and airports anywhere in the world. Legal export documents, delivery times and transport costs will depend on the size of order and Country your goods are being delivered to. For further information please feel free to contact our Export Team direct on 01204 556450 who will be more than happy to help with your export enquiries.

What is the latest time I can place an order?
Our Customer Service department is open from 08:45 to 17:00 Monday to Friday. If you would like your order the next working day (and products are immediately available), you will need to place your order before 15:30 hours Monday to Thursday and before 15:00 hours on Fridays. For TintXpress items please speak to our Customer Service department on 01204 521771.


Do you have a distributor in my area?
You can purchase materials direct by contacting our Customer Development Team on 01204 556415 who will help you with prices and the ordering process.

For overseas clients we have local agents who will be more than happy to assist.


Which credit cards do you accept?
All major credit cards are accepted apart from American Express.


What colour ranges can I choose from?
You can choose from hundreds of colours found in the BS.4800, RAL- F3 and BS.381C ranges.


How quickly can I have my coloured finish?
This depends on the colour and material you choose. We advise you to speak to our Customer Service department on 01204 521771 for specific information.


Can the products be air freighted and sea freighted?
The majority of our products can be both air freighted and sea freighted - some cannot be air freighted for health and safety reasons. Call our Export team on 01204 556450 who will be more than happy to provide you with further information.


What is an intumescent?
An intumescent coating protects steel from fire.


What is an epoxy primer?
It is a hard wearing, abrasion resistant coating that gives anti-corrosive protection to steel substrates. Supplied as a 2 component product (base + additive) the 2 parts are mixed together at the point of use.


What is an MIO?
MIO stands for Micaceous Iron Oxide. These materials are pigmented with MIO which helps to create a protection barrier for steel substrates. The MIO also provides additional strength to the coating and improves durability.

Can I apply a two-pack paint over a single-pack paint?

Generally speaking this is not something we would advise, however there are exceptions to the rule. For specific situations please call our technical advisors on 01204 521771.


What type of thinners do I require?
This depends on the product you are using and can be found on the technical data sheet under Recommended Thinner/s.


Which undercoat shade should I use?
We recommend you choose a shade of undercoat/primer that compliments the finish or topcoat. For further help you can talk to our Customer Services department on 01204 521771.


What is a micron?
Paint measurements are expressed in microns. One thousand (1,000) microns equal one (1) millimetre.


What does DFT mean?
DFT stands for Dry Film Thickness and is measured in microns.


What does WFT mean?
WFT stands for Wet Film Thickness and is measured in microns.


How do I convert wet film thickness to dry film thickness?
You can find both wet and dry film thicknesses on the technical data sheets for all our products. However, you can use the following formula:

Wet Film Thickness x Solids by Volume % = Dry Film Thickness 100


How do I convert dry film thickness to wet film thickness?
You can find both wet and dry film thicknesses on the technical data sheets for all our products. However, you can use the following formula:

Dry Film Thickness x 100 = Wet Film Thickness Solids by Volume %


What is the theoretical coverage of paint?
Theoretical coverage is different for each product and can be found on the technical data sheet. It can also be calculated by using the following formula:

Solids by Volume % x 10 = m² per litre Desired Dry Film Thickness


How can I work out the amount of paint needed?
The following calculation will allow you to work out theoretical consumption but does not include a wastage factor.

Area (m²) x Desired Dry Film Thickness (microns) = Litres Solids by Volume % x 10


How do I receive a Purchase Order?
Suppliers can receive Purchase Orders from Leighs via fax, email or mail.
Any and all requests to external suppliers to provide materials, products or services must be accompanied by a Purchase Order number all such requests will require confirmation by suppliers to Purchasing.

Our standard payment terms to suppliers are 51 days following month of invoice. As an example January's invoices will be paid on the 21st March.
