What is a hydrocarbon fire?
Hydrocarbon fires show a very rapid rate of heating combined with extreme turbulence and result from the burning of hydrocarbon based fuels such as oil and gas.
This type of fire is often seen in difficult environmental conditions such as the oil, gas and petrochemical processing industries, placing very high demands on the fire protection used.
With excellent fire protection and durability, thick film epoxy intumescent coatings are used to protect substrates against these onerous conditions giving the client peace of mind.
Firetex M90 provides protection against hydrocarbon ‘pool’ and jet fires for periods of up to 2 hours. It is solvent free, has low water uptake and has inherent corrosion protection. Frequently used on structural steel members, bulkheads, decks and process vessels you can be certain that once applied Firetex M90 will not spall or crack. Life-long protection is assured as it is resistant to atmospheric and chemical attacks.
Should you need a thermal barrier, Firetex M89 has been specifically designed for this use and is a 100% solids, flexible epoxy resin based product. The benefits can be clearly seen as it has inherent fire and corrosion protection combined with a low specific gravity and can be used on surfaces operating up to 150oC.
For many projects it is desirable to have removable fire protection for inspection and maintenance access. We pride ourselves on giving you excellent solutions and having listened to our customers we developed Firetex M89 and M90 casting systems. Used individually or together as a hybrid system, they allow sections of fire protection to be easily removed without major interruption to process operations.
We understand the need to have excellent certification so that you can be confident when specifying Firetex. All our fire protection products are fully researched using our purpose built Fire Test Centre and then independently tested by world renowned laboratories such as WRFC, SINTEF, UL and BAM. To provide clients with additional confidence when specifying Firetex epoxy intumescent, all our fire tests are witnessed and certified by leading international Class Societies such as Lloyds Register of Shipping and Det Norske Veritas.
