With the recent weather, global warming seems to have become a reality that effects us all. As Co2 emissions are a prime contributor to global warming, we all need to think more about the energy we use and its effect on the planet. Even the simplest action like switching off a light when leaving the room can make a difference, which is why Leighs Paints has ran a children’s poster competition to encourage people to be more energy aware.

Every year businesses up and down the country waste energy by leaving office equipment on standby when they aren’t needed and leaving the lights on when no-one is around. This not only impacts on a business’ bottom line, but also uses unnecessary energy. To raise awareness of how the simple things can make a huge impact on the world, a poster campaign is taking place at Leighs Paints Kestor Street site. This is where the competition comes in!

To give the poster campaign a fresh spin, Leighs decided to recruit the talents of children to come up with poster designs. The competition was open to children aged between 4 and 11 that are connected to friends and family of Leighs Paints personnel. The prize on offer was a family ticket to one of four North West attractions. The response rate was extremely encouraging and the judges had a hard time picking the winners. Three children were chosen – Michael Thornton, Laura McLaren and Ryan Ogston.

On Friday 27th July the winners and their families came to Leighs Paints to be presented, by John Bewicke* (Leighs Paints Supply Chain Manager) with their prize.

* John Bewicke has been instrumental in setting up Leighs Paints cost of quality programme to drive down the hidden costs in the business. As part of this programme an energy forum was set up, which in turn has lead to the poster campaign.
