As a local business that specialises in fire retardant coatings, Leighs Paints were asked to become involved in FRPM initially as a co-sponsor and speaker. The proximity of Leighs headquarters to the conference location (Albert Halls), has lead to Leighs Paints offering to take a small group of delegates around the Kestor Street site. Leighs Paints Research & Development department, as long time attendees of FRPM, are keen to show attendees just what sets Leighs apart from its competitors and why its research and development is world class.
Leighs Paints produces a range of intumescent coatings to prolong the load bearing capacity of steel structures in the case of a fire. As part of the tour, R&D will be able to demonstrate how an intumescent coating is applied and how it reacts in a real life fire scenario at the on site furnace. Andrew Taylor, Leighs Paints Head of Science said the following:
“We see FRPM as an essential conference to develop our knowledge and contacts within both the commercial and academic spheres. The fire resistance market is important to us in what is a rapidly evolving global marketplace. We are delighted that this years event is being hosted by Bolton University and that Leighs Paints is a part of it.”The conference, that takes place every two years, is an event for experts from the engineering, chemistry and material science, to come together and discuss the challenges in their field, to help try and improve the quality of the fire retardant materials. With fire retardant materials the first line of defence for many structures, they are crucial in helping to save lives when a fire strikes.
