PRESS RELEASE 3rd September 2007 |

| Top Marks for Female Fire Engineer | |
Engineering is not normally a career associated with women. However one woman has not only embraced a career in engineering, she has also got off to a flying start! Model pupil, Pam Holt, has passed BTEC Construction with a double distinction. This places her in the top percent of the country and is a fantastic first step to becoming a fully qualified engineer.
Pam is currently employed as a Firetex Estimator within Leighs Paints and her qualification has been fully supported by her employer. In fact Pam said that without the support of her line manager Bob Glendenning, she wouldn’t have embarked on the qualification at all! Pam also commented,
“This has been a fantastic opportunity to develop my career and I have been surprised at how interesting I have found the subject.”The role of Firetex Estimator within the Leighs Paints Fire Estimation department is a challenging one. Each day the department work closely with customers, to advise them on the best possible paint specification to fulfil their requirements. This often involves looking at engineers’ drawings to establish just where fire protection is required and at what level. As part of Leighs Paints commitment to continuous improvement the Fire Estimation team, which already has two qualified structural engineers, has committed to have the whole team as trained as engineers. Through the hard work of Pam Holt, they are already on their way to achieving that goal. Pam has passed BTEC Construction a two year course which means she can now move on to a HNC in Civil Engineering starting in September. Bob Glendenning had this to say, “I am absolutely delighted with Pam’s results and her development in becoming a qualified structural engineer. This is a remarkable achievement for someone from a non-engineering background. Her results show fantastic commitment over two years of extremely hard work. I look forward to her future development as she now embarks on a HNC and naturally wish her every success. A massive well done” |
