Our People
Health & Safety
We are committed to providing a safe working environment for
employees, suppliers and neighbours by establishing good working practices that meet the
standards required. Therefore we are seeking registration to OHSAS 18001.
Individual teams operate and report for the entire business with a full review
provided for the monthly Operations Team.
Regular health monitoring, training and availability of statistics help to
continuously reinforce our position.
Training & Development
Each employee completes a Personal Development Plan (PDP) every year and
this is used to identify their specific training requirements. The training delivered is measured and reported on a monthly basis.
Our employee statisfaction is surveyed every 2 years and the managers are
reviewed on their management style periodically. Focus groups work on identified issues from the surveys with the results published both internally and externally.

Leighs Paints employs 250 in its direct workforce and is looking to boost its international sales going forward.
We are committed to providing competitive products to to fulfil customer expections and back this up with first class standards of service so that we become and remain our customers first choice. This approach enables our customers to be competitive both in the UK and beyond.
Investment for the Future
Leighs constantly strive to innovate in the markets they serve through a heavy
programme of
Research & Development. More than 10% of the staff are
employed in Research & Development department.
Manufacturing and
IT are also key areas of investment for the business and both become involved in many projects.

Stakeholder Involvement
We have joint ventures with academic institutions and commercial ventures that
all work to develop the efficient usage of steel in construction. Some of these
are seen to be ground breaking opportunities.
Leighs have been responsible for the development of the off-site fire protection
market, working in conjunction with specifiers, designers, developers and
fabricators.
Provision of Information
Specific and general advice is provided to specifiers, customers and their
customers on cost effective, environmentally sensitive systems both on a one to
one basis and by published information.
Materials are designed for the longest possible interval to first maintenance or
on a maintenance free basis. Specifications are available for most situations that give
this information.
Employees are kept informed of the company’s progress by daily briefings,
internal newspaper, internal TV network as well as meetings with the senior
management.
Involvement with local communities
We take an active interest in our local communities providing a Governor for the
local primary school, supplying them with IT equipment, charitable donations
to youth groups, hospices and childrens organisations.
The Company sponsors a number of students through University and provides
a Governor for the local independent school.
Environment
We have consistently lead our field in the development of environmentally
friendly coatings, firstly to meet the Environmental Protection Act and more
recently the Solvent Emissions Directive. Detailed advice on compliance issues
is provided to customers individually or at seminars and bespoke software
provides scheduled (or on demand) statements of customers solvents
consumption.
We provide expert advice to many European technical committees on behalf of
the UK and take an active part in the European Paint Makers forum.
Our own solvent usage is carefully monitored and dirty solvent is re-cycled.
Waste products in general are monitored and reported on monthly.
Cooling water is recycled.
The Company is seeking registration to ISO14001.
Prudent use of energy
As most energy is derived from non-renewable sources at
present we intend to reduce our demand for energy by using an energy
management plan.
Our processes have been updated to incorporate more efficient methods of
manufacture such as the use of inverters on motor drives and motion/lux
sensitive lighting in manufacturing and storage areas.
The insulation of our facilities is under constant improvement.
