Water Based FIRETEX – Construction Phase
During the construction phase it is unlikely that a building will be weather tight. Under such circumstances, if using a water based FIRETEX material, it is essential to protect it from any form of moisture attack until a topcoat has been applied. Once topcoated the intumscent will give limited exposure resistance for the construction phase.
The length of construction phase will determine the choice of topcoat and the following guidelines apply:-
- Up to 3 month construction phase – apply 50 microns dry film thickness of FIRETEX M71V2.
- Up to 6 month construction phase – apply 75 microns dry film thickness of Resistex C137V2.
The FIRETEX plus topcoat must be fully dry prior to being exposed to moisture e.g. condensation or rain water.
The above applies for any construction phase environment up to and including category C4 as defined in ISO 12944-2 but additionally there must be no ponding or running water.
Once the building is completed, the end use environmental conditions must be C1 or C2 Internal as defined in ISO 12944-2.
