| BCF member Leighs Paints recently won the 'Road Safety Product of the Year' award for their product NiteSite at the 2007 Highways Magazine Excellence Awards. Tom Harris, Minister of State for Transport was Guest of Honour at the awards which were presented by motoring correspondent Quentin Wilson.
The award criteria was for 'the organisation whose vision, belief and determination has brought a product to market which improves safety on the UK's roads. This award recognises products whose development has helped achieve a reduction in incidents or casulties through its implementation. The judges, who included key figures within County Councils and the Highways Agency, found that NiteSite 'has clearly demonstrated its potential across the UK'. Paul Clayton, Marketing Director of Leighs Paints, comments, 'Hard evidence proves that using NiteSite saves lives. Anybody using the roads during the autumn and winter months should try to see the white lines and recognise that when its dark and wet you just can't see them. Winning this award gives NiteSite the recognition it deserves'NiteSite is a new concept in the UK, using cold plastic technology - MMA (methylmethacrylate) as opposed to traditional thermoplastic materials. It is designed to ensure excellent bead retention and duribility properties to provide longer life and best value. On Cheshire roads where NiteSite has been applied, the County Council has been very pleased with the results, not only of the coating's retro-reflectivity values in the wet but also the improvement in road safety. Congratulations to Leighs Paints on their well deserved transport industry recognition. |
